Every summer, Citronne Gallery brings contemporary art to the tiny island of Poros. Situated on the east coast of the Greek Riviera, Poros is a popular sailing destination due to its natural harbour and picturesque seaside promenade. For its first exhibition for the season, Citronne Gallery presents a solo show with works by the late George Lappas, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 66. The exhibition "Figures and Backpack with Ears" echoes the surreal and dreamlike element in Lappas's work, who worked mainly in sculpture and explored extensively the human form.
Sculptures, studies and drawings attempt to give a complete overview of the artist's personality and his artistic investigations. The exhibition is part of Citronne Gallery's 2017 cycle based on the concept of "limits"; in the case of Lappas, the gallery's curator Tatiana Spinari-Pollali observes that his works transcend geographical, cultural, temporal and national limits, but always imply a certain nostalgia for a supernatural past from the East that comes in contrast with the rationalism of the West.
