Milan-based artist Roberto Cuoghi is this year's guest artist at the DESTE Foundation Project Space in Hydra. Occupying the building of the island's former slaughterhouse, the space hosts an exhibition by an internationally-known contemporary artist every year. Cuoghi's exhibition is titled "Putiferio", which means "to bring the stink" in Latin, but could also signify chaos or a hellish image. In symphony with its odious title, the exhibition features works made of organic materials and clay, creating chaotic assemblages that are visually disturbing and symbolically unsettling. During the exhibition's opening, the artist will orchestrate an event around the slaughterhouse, where he will experiment with ancient techniques for firing ceramics. Born in 1973, Roberto Cuoghi is a multimedia artist who has had solo exhibitions at numerous international institutions, and has participated in many group exhibitions worldwide.
