Since 1999, the DESTE foundation for contemporary art awards a prize to a contemporary artist of Greek or Cypriot origin every two years, as a way to support young talent and feel the pulse of what is current in the local contemporary art scene. All nine recipients of the prize are participating in the show DESTE Prize 1999-2017: An Anniversary Exhibition, which is hosted by the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens. The exhibition showcases new work by the nine artists, offering the public an opportunity to see how their practice has evolved since they received the prize. A dedicated catalogue for the DESTE Prize anniversary includes all the artists who have been nominated for the prize, making for a thorough directory of contemporary art highlights from the past 18 years.
